Bangalore: Australian cricket team’s opening batsman Usman Khawaja has said that India’s spin which includes Ashwin will be a tough challenge to overcome.
Australian cricket team is touring India. The first match of the 4-Test series between the two teams will begin on the 9th in Nagpur. All the batsmen of the Australian team are doing special training to deal with Ravichandran Ashwin’s spin in this series. Australia’s opening batsman Usman Khawaja said:
We have learned a lot in the last 10 years, especially thinking about how to perform well and win on the types of pitches we can get on Indian soil. We feel like we’re in a better place than ever.
Ashwin can act like a gun. He is very talented. A tricky bowler, he has more variations in his delivery. Also uses grease well.
This series will be one of the best challenges. On day 1, day 2, day 3 or at some point the pitches will turn into spin. Then Ashwin will be in the game. He bowls more overs.
So, it’s all about how I’m going to play against him, how I’m going to score runs. What Ashwin will do also remains to be seen. If you bat long enough against him, he will change his game plans against you.
He never bowls the same balls in all the overs. He will definitely try new things and use all his skills against you. If the pitch is good it will be easier to bat with the new ball. But as pitches in India deteriorate and the spinners bowl with the new ball, it becomes difficult to bat.
When we were training, it was difficult to bat with the new ball on the pitch where the balls were spinning. Fans feel it is better to start batting first in the subcontinent. This is perfect when the pitch is flat. Spinning the balls will not be the best result because the new ball will have more variations. As the ball softens, it becomes easier to predict. This is what Usman Khawaja said.
