For the first time in two years, deaths from coronavirus infection amounted to less than 10 thousand people per week. This follows from the data obtained by TASS.
It is noted that, in accordance with the latest estimates, over the past seven days, 9.6 thousand people have died due to the consequences of COVID-19, which is the lowest since the spring of 2020.

On May 28, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, Candidate of Medical Sciences Tatyana Solomatina suggested that another surge in the incidence of COVID-19, which is observed in European countries, could reach Russia. She recalled that the virus mutates, so the vaccine that was given a year ago protects to some extent, but it is better to update it.
Immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov on May 26 announced a possible wave of coronavirus in Russia in the second half of September. According to him, in the summer in Russia the situation with coronavirus will be unstable – there will be an increase in the incidence, then a decrease.
On May 22, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that against the backdrop of a decrease in testing for the presence of COVID-19 infection, an increase in the incidence of coronavirus is observed in almost 70 countries around the world. At the opening of the 75th World Health Assembly in Geneva, the WHO Director-General called on all states to achieve vaccination coverage against COVID-19 of at least 70% of the population.
The vaccination campaign continues in Russia. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Seven drugs against coronavirus have been registered in the country: the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N, CoviVac and Convasel.
