China’s research vessel Xi’an-6 is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka next month. China recently requested Sri Lanka to allow the Xian-6 exploration vessel to visit Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged last week that such a request had come from the Chinese Embassy.
Last year from August 10 to 12, the Chinese warship Yuan Wang-5 docked at Colombo Port. This led to a diplomatic row between India and Sri Lanka. Exactly one year after the incident, China is now planning to send its research vessel to Sri Lanka. As this would pose a threat to India’s security, it is said that Rajnath Singh will strongly oppose India’s opposition in this matter.
