The ground forces of the Russian Armed Forces will take part in eight international exercises at the country’s training grounds in 2023. This was announced on Sunday, January 1, in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
In particular, a joint exercise of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) “Peace Mission – 2023” and an exercise with units of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces (CRRF) of the Central Asian region “Frontier-2023” are planned.
In addition, the Russian-Indian interspecific exercise “Indra-2023”, the Russian-Pakistani military exercise “Friendship-2023”, the Russian-Mongolian exercise “Selenga-2023”, as well as joint Russian-Algerian, Russian-Laotian and Russian-Vietnamese military training.
Another event will take place outside of Russia, on the territory of Armenia. A joint exercise of the peacekeeping contingents of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) “Indestructible Brotherhood-2023” will be held here.
“During the exercises, issues of joint planning of military operations, the procedure for interaction between representatives of the headquarters and units of the Land Forces of the participating countries, as well as tactical actions to neutralize conditional illegal armed formations will be worked out,” the ministry’s website said in a statement.
All maneuvers will be peacekeeping and anti-terrorist in nature, the Defense Ministry stressed.
Earlier, in November, preparations began for the Russian-Belarusian military exercises “Union Shield – 2023”. They will become the main event of the joint training of the military authorities and troops of Russia and Belarus in 2023.
As Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated, ensuring the military security of the Union State is a priority task for the Defense Ministry. For this, according to him, joint events of operational and combat training are also regularly held within the framework of the international organizations of the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO.
