The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, who went to check the security conditions of women in the streets of the national capital Delhi at midnight, had a terrifying experience. A man in a car forced her to get into the vehicle. When she refused, he harassed her. When she tried to catch him, he raised the car window and got her hand stuck. He dragged himself forward for a distance of 15 meters. Swati Maliwal, chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had this experience. It is noteworthy that this incident took place in the context of the death of a young woman Anjali in the recent incident of being dragged by a car in Delhi. This incident which took place in Cine Faki has become a topic of discussion across the country.
Swati Maliwal said that the accused was under the influence of alcohol at that time. ‘I and a member of our team shouted loudly and he left. Otherwise, it would have been another Anjali,” expressed Swati Maliwal.
‘See how security is in Delhi. Even the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women has no security,’ commented Swati Maliwal. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and started investigation. The accused Harishchandra (47) was identified and arrested. His car was seized.
The National Commission for Women has taken this incident seriously. It responded to the incident based on the stories in the media. NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the Delhi Commissioner to submit a complete report on this within two days. She suggested that the case should be monitored by herself and strict action should be taken against the accused.
