New Delhi: Excise duty policy for liquor has been changed for the year 2021-22 in Delhi. A complaint of corruption has been raised against the Aam Aadmi Party government. The department functions under Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The Aam Aadmi Party Government’s Excise Policy Notification, 2021 was released on July 5.
However, it has been revealed that the policy’s tax cut information has been leaked earlier (May 31, 2021) favoring the liquor industry.
It was discovered that the Delhi liquor makers and sellers had made a profit of several crores of rupees. In return for this profit, Aam Aadmi Party chief Vijay Nair was given Rs 100 crore, of which around Rs 30 crore changed hands through hawala, it was reported. The complaint was therefore referred to the Union Home Ministry for investigation by Delhi Lt Governor Vinay Saxena. The case was handed over to the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate in October last year and investigation is underway.
Last Tuesday, the CBI summoned Buchibabu Korandla for this investigation. He is the former auditor of K. Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao. Buchibabu has been arrested as he did not cooperate with the CBI in the investigation.
There is a complaint that he helped businessmen called ‘Southland Group’ involved in Delhi Excise tax evasion. Aam Aadmi Party media wing chief Vijay Nair and businessman Abhishek Poinpali have already been arrested and are on bail in this case.
Eight people, including businessmen from southern states including Andhra Pradesh and Delhi government officials, have been included as criminals by the CBI.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, former MP and BSR MLC K Kavita, Andhra’s ruling YSR Congress MP Magunda Srinivasalu Reddy are also named in the 10,000-page charge sheet.
It is alleged that Sisodia and others have deleted the data of 140 mobile phones they used after the case was registered. These handsets, worth Rs 1-2 crore, have key resources.
Similarly, Sisodia, Kavita and others have denied the allegations against them. However, they have also been investigated.
