New Delhi. Along with the mountains, now there is a double attack of cold in the plains as well. Due to western disturbance, a blanket of fog spread across North India today with the mercury falling. In Jammu and Kashmir also, there was heavy snowfall in the lower areas of the valley. In Himachal, the mercury reached minus due to cloudy sky.
Air and train services have been disrupted due to dense fog in Delhi-NCR. Dense fog reduced visibility considerably and affected train and aircraft operations. Due to weather related conditions, 24 trains departing from Delhi are running late and more than 50 trains have been cancelled.
According to a report, flights of many airlines were also affected. Delhi airport has reported an average delay of five minutes for arriving flights and 11 minutes for departing flights. SpiceJet said all flights to and from Amritsar and Guwahati are affected due to bad weather.
The cold increased due to cloud cover in many cities across the state including Shimla in Himachal. Due to this, the temperature has reached minus in five cities. According to the Meteorological Department here, there will be light rain and snowfall in the state from January 3, while from January 4 to 7, there will be heavy rain in the plains and snowfall in the hilly areas. Due to the activity of Western Disturbance in Uttarakhand, there is forecast of snowfall on high hills and rain in lower areas on January 6 and 7.
