Russia is categorically against the entry of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) into NATO, as this will create additional risks in the region. This was announced on Tuesday, May 15, by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko in an interview with the RTRS television and radio company.
According to him, all attempts to involve the state in NATO and the EU are artificial and absolutely unacceptable. Such a policy will lead to the destruction of relations between BiH and Russia.
“The European Union, by promoting the so-called European agenda, is actually trying to destroy these age-old ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Russian Federation, trying to direct it towards an anti-Russian course by trying to include BiH in NATO activities and turn BiH into an instrument for promoting American interests in the region and in the European the continent as a whole,” Grushko noted.
He also added that Russia will continue to build positive mutually beneficial relations with Serbia, no matter what.
On May 10, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya at a meeting of the Security Council of the world organization said that the West is trying to drive Bosnia and Herzegovina into the North Atlantic Alliance against the sovereign will of the peoples of this country. He noted that the purpose of the Western strategy is clear and should not mislead anyone.
At the same time, a month ago, the President of the Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, assured that membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in NATO was not considered. He noted that the country adheres to the position of Serbia, maintaining neutrality and non-alignment in any military bloc.
