About 185 companies and catering establishments are competing in this year’s pilgrimage to provide 15 million meals to the pilgrims in the holy sites, according to what the head of the sect of nutrition and subsistence contractors in Makkah, Ahmed Al-Sharif, told Al-Arabiya.net, who confirmed that there are other complementary meals to the pilgrim’s dish. He said that about 185 companies and catering establishments have been rehabilitated by the Holy Capital Municipality, and rehabilitation is still ongoing to create a competitive environment to provide the best service to the pilgrims during this year’s Hajj. .
He pointed out that the meals are varied according to the wishes of the pilgrims, and they are required to be safe, as they are prepared and presented in accordance with the requirements of the Food and Drug Authority and the Secretariat of the Holy Capital.
He also added, “There are 5 factories for pre-packaged meals in Saudi Arabia, which have advanced capabilities and the latest devices and mechanisms. During the Hajj season, there will be vehicles dedicated to transporting dry, chilled and frozen food from catering companies to the camps in the holy sites, and tracking devices will be installed for vehicles transporting food. For pilgrims, in addition to the fact that there are temperature measuring devices for food transport vehicles, and linking them to the rationing information center.”
He continued: “He is working on preparing and transporting meals as human cadres, in order to conduct field visits to the headquarters of catering operators and follow them up in the holy sites and sterilize them during the Hajj, especially since the catering service is one of the basic services that touch the health and safety of the pilgrim.”
He pointed out that the great efforts made by all sectors participating in the service of the pilgrims are implementing health protocols and preventive measures so that the pilgrims can enjoy a safe and healthy pilgrimage that enables them to perform their rituals easily and easily. Khaled Sindi, Assistant Mayor of the Holy City of Hajj and Umrah, explained that the Municipality has set up a number of teams and committees to monitor catering contractors and field monitoring around the clock, and modern mobile laboratories have been equipped with high technologies, to analyze food and water samples, and issue the results of the examination in an accurate manner.
