The Indian team crashed out of the Women’s T20 World Cup series after losing to Australia by five runs in the semi-finals. Chasing the target of 173 runs, the Indian team did not get off to a good start, but captain Harmanpreet formed a great alliance with Jemima. The two put on a partnership of 69 runs.
Jemima got out after scoring 42 runs off 24 balls. Harmanpreet then put on a 35-run partnership with Richa Ghosh. Harmanpreet was run out after scoring 52 runs off 34 balls.
Indian women’s team lost 6 wickets in the 15th over and crossed 130 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur was in the field in a well settled position. The fourth ball of the 15th over saw Aussie Georgia Wareham bowl a full delivery and Harmanpreet swept it to the leg side. When he got two runs from that ball towards the boundary, his bat could not touch the crease properly and he was unexpectedly run out.
Richa Ghosh, who continues to be a star of hope, tried to play the big shot and got out after scoring 14 runs off 17 balls. The Indian team scored 134 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 16 overs.
38 runs were needed from the last four overs to win. However, the Indian team scored only 167 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs and lost the game. With this victory, the Australian team advanced to the finals.
Harmanpreet’s run out was the turning point in the game when the Indian team was on the way to victory. Harmanpreet’s run-out was reminiscent of MS Dhoni’s run-out in the 2019 Cricket World Cup semi-final.
Both these run outs have occurred at crucial stages of the World Cup semi-finals. Apart from that the shots scored by both the men were hit towards the leg side. Dhoni and Harmanpreet’s jersey numbers are seven. Unfortunately, India did not win both the games.
Fans of the Indian cricket team are trending Dhoni and Harmanpreet on Twitter based on these similarities.
