Thursday marked the 26th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. Now she’s raising her voice again – and causing a stir in the kingdom!
The documentary Diana: The Rest of Her Story is slated for release next year. With him, excerpts from private tapes made public for the first time, which the deceased Lady Di (†36) recorded in the 1990s.
Private insight into her soul
Back when she was still with Charles married, she spoke to her close friend James Colthurst for seven hours. With Diana’s consent, the recordings were handed over to author Andrew Morton (70). The writer has already written the tell-all book “Diana. Her True Story” (released in 1992). In it, she unpacked firsthand about the Royals.

The US TV show “Good Morning America” exclusive excerpts from the new documentary are now available. Morton told the show viewers would have a better understanding of who Lady Di really was afterwards. “Here we have Diana talking about her ambitions for the future.” The Queen of Hearts died in a car accident in the Alma Tunnel in Paris on August 31, 1997.
The sound recordings reveal that
► Charles actually wanted a girl! Diana recalls: “My husband hardly speaks to Mum because at Harry’s christening, Charles went up to her and said, ‘You know, we’re so disappointed. We thought it was going to be a girl'”.
Charles would have preferred a daughter to a son
The reaction: “Mommy ripped his head off and said, ‘You should consider yourself lucky to have a normal child.'”
Because of this Zoff, Charles no longer wanted to speak to her. Diana’s mother Frances Shand Kydd († 68) is said to have had a significant part in the marriage.
Diana hated her stepmom
► Also topic: The broken relationship with her stepmother Raine († 87). Diana said “I hate you so much” at her: “If you only knew how much we all hate you for what you did. You ruined the house. You spent dad’s money.”
Diana: “I said everything I could.”
The Queen of Hearts had a strained relationship with her stepmother Raine
Raine: “You have no idea how much pain your mother caused your father.”
Diana’s counter: “Pain, Raine, that’s a word you don’t understand at all. In my job and in my role, I see people suffering like you’ve never seen before, and you call it pain. You still have a lot to learn.”
Background: Diana hated her stepmother Raine. She pushed them, Diana was married young and visiting her father’s castle, even down the stairs once. “I felt enormous satisfaction,” she told her language coach years later.
What revelations follow?
Because the new stepmother supposedly changed too much, Diana and her four siblings didn’t like the new woman at their father’s side from the start. Time seemed to heal at least this wound: over the years, the toxic relationship is said to have relaxed. Especially in the time around Diana’s divorce from Prince Charles in 1996, she is said to have been with Raine often.
It seems clear: With the publication of the documentary in 2024, the late Lady Di is likely to drop a few more bombshells posthumously…
