Parliamentary advisors recently said, during the discussion of the draft sub-budget for the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Enterprise, Employment and Competencies for the year 2024, that government programs did not achieve the desired result by a large percentage, while others led to failure, which led to an expansion of unemployment figures, which… There are more than one and a half million unemployed people, most of whom are graduates of university institutions.
Parliamentary advisors confirmed, in their oral questions addressed to Minister Younis Al-Skouri, that most of the employed youth work in the unorganized sector, and in job positions that offer low wages, as a result of the failure of government programs and the evaporation of its dreamy promises to provide a million jobs.
The same sources added that the mechanisms established by the government are still on paper and their results are very poor on the ground, which has made Moroccan youth live a tragic reality due to unemployment.
Fatima Zoukagh, a member of the Democratic Confederation of Labor group, highlighted that Moroccan youth now prefer to immigrate outside Morocco to achieve a decent living, which has contributed to the tragedies of death boats, after claiming the lives of dozens.
For his part, Khaled Al-Sati, of the National Labor Union in Morocco, explained that many young people with projects have been deprived of funding.
Al-Sati added that the financing institutions assured the project owners that the suspension was due to the ministry and the Moroccan company in charge of the projects.
The High Commission for Planning confirmed in its latest report that the unemployment rate rose by 2.1 points between the third quarters of 2022 and 2023, moving from 11.4% to 13.5%.
The delegation highlighted that half of the unemployed (50.1%) found themselves in this situation after completing or stopping their studies (38.1%) or reaching working age (12%).
The delegation explained in its news note, regarding the situation of the labor market during the third quarter of the year 2023, that this rate is due to its increase by plus 1.8 points to 7% in rural areas, and plus 2 points to 17% in urban areas, highlighting that the number of unemployed people reached 1,625,000. Unemployed, which represents an increase of 18%.
