Buldhana: Bus overturns in Maharashtra, diesel tank explodes and catches fire. 26 passengers including 3 children and 10 women died tragically in this terrible accident.
A bus owned by a private travel company had left from Nagpur in Maharashtra yesterday night and was going to Pune. At around 1.30 am, while traveling on the Sumruti Mahamarg Expressway near Pimbalguda village in Buldana district, the bus suddenly lost control and ran in a wrong direction, hitting the crash barrier and the wall of the flyover and overturned. The bus caught fire when it overturned while traveling at high speed.
Before the passengers could guess what was happening, the diesel tank also caught fire. The entire bus caught fire.
Only the driver, cleaner and 6 passengers jumped out of the bus and survived. All the others could not come out and were trapped inside and burned to death. 26 passengers including 3 children and 10 women died in this accident. 8 people were injured.
Meanwhile, the neighbors came to know about the accident and informed the traffic help center. Firefighters arrived and started extinguishing the fire. But by then the bus was completely burnt. Those injured in the accident were admitted to Puldana Government Hospital for treatment.
The process of identifying the passengers who burnt to death in the bus is going on. After the DNA test, the body will be handed over to the relatives, Puldana District Collector Thummath said. To help the relatives of the deceased passengers, the Nagpur Disaster Management Unit has set up a relief center in collaboration with the Buldana district administration.
Condolences to Prime Minister Modi: Prime Minister Modi condoled the bus accident on Twitter and said, “I am deeply saddened by the bus accident in Maharashtra. My condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the victims,” he said.
The Prime Minister has announced that the families of the deceased will be given Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Expressing deep condolences, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the families of the deceased will be given Rs 5 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He also ordered an inquiry into the accident.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Patnavis said that the government will bear the cost of treatment of the injured. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also condoled the accident.
Unaided Vehicles: A passenger who survived the accident said, “The bus caught fire immediately after the collision. I and the passenger sitting next to me managed to escape by breaking the rear window. Only 4 to 5 passengers managed to escape. Others could not escape. We jumped off the bus and sought help from other vehicles on the highway. But no vehicle stopped. The police and fire brigade immediately came and engaged in firefighting and rescue operations.
A local person who witnessed the accident said, “Some people called us for help, so we rushed to the spot. The whole bus was on fire. It was painful to see the people inside trying to break the glass but not being able to get out. There was nothing we could do because the fire was raging. “If other vehicles on the road had stopped and come to help, many lives could have been saved,” he said.
