However, the ministry has exempted two categories of non-resident drivers from this decision. It does not apply to domestic drivers under Article 20 and truck drivers operating within the country. Both these categories of drivers should carry the hard copy of the license. At the same time, Kuwaiti expatriates, who are allowed to hold digital licenses only, should carry the driving licenses of their respective countries if they are driving outside the country.
Officials also informed that the validity of the new digital driving licenses will be only one year. Driving licenses can be renewed electronically through the website of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Sahal App, a unified government system for electronic services. Applications for this should also be submitted online. Applicants who meet the specified conditions will have their license digitally renewed.
