Brazilian national team coach Fernando Diniz, 49, called up this Saturday (23) the players who will face Venezuela and Uruguay in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The main novelty in relation to the previous list that marked the coach’s debut in the role was the call-up of midfielder Gerson, from Flamengo.
“[O Gerson] He is a well above average player and [a convocação do jogador] It also has a lot to do with what I think about football”, said Diniz.
Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior, who was cut from the previous squad due to injury, returned to Diniz’s list.
The Madrid team’s star will join Neymar (Al Hilal), Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton), Richarlison (Tottenham), Raphinha (Barcelona) and Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) in attack.
In defense, Ibanez, from Al Ahli, gave way to Bremer, from Juventus. Marquinhos (PSG), Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal), Nino (Fluminense), were maintained in relation to the previous list.
Brazil faces Venezuela on October 12th at Arena Pantanal, in Cuiabá, and travels to Montevideo to face Uruguay in the Centenário on the 17th.
With victories in the first round of the Qualifiers against Bolivia (5-1) and Peru (1-0), Brazil leads with 6 points and 5 goal difference, ahead of Argentina, which has the same number of points, but 4 balance goals.
“The team managed [nos jogos contra Bolívia e Peru]in addition to competing, bringing the fans a little closer to what they expect Brazilian football to be”, said the national team coach.
Fluminense coach, Diniz signed a contract in August to lead the Brazilian team on an interim basis, for a year, while the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) awaits the arrival of the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, from Real Madrid.
The 2026 World Cup will be held jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The South American Qualifiers will classify six teams directly, with the seventh placed team going to the repechage. There are 10 countries in the dispute — Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Paraguay, Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Bolivia.
