Director Anthony Eyelid who introduced Silk Smitha

The film industry has been plagued by a series of tragedies over the past few months. Leading director-producer Anthony Eastman, 75, has died of a heart attack. He was rushed to a medical college in Thrissur on Saturday with a heart attack. He died Sunday while receiving treatment. Many Malayalam film personalities have taken to social media to mourn the loss of Anthony.

Anthony started his career as a photographer by starting a studio called ‘Eastman’ and gradually stepped towards directing. He was introduced as a director with the film ‘Inaye Thedi’ and gradually rose to prominence. After that he became famous for his films like ‘Ambade Njane, Ice Cream, Vial’.

Apart from being a director, Anthony excelled as a producer and photographer. He also introduced senior actress Silk Smitha to the silver screen. Silk Smitha was photographed without make-up and shown to the directors. Anthony had earlier said that everyone was interested in taking her as a heroine. He said at the time that Silk had become a great success by taking her as the heroine for the movie Silk and naming her Smita.
