Bengaluru: A caste-wise census was conducted in Karnataka in 2015 when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister. The results were not published due to opposition.
However, following the publication of the caste-wise census in Bihar last month, the Congress leadership insisted that such a survey should be conducted in all states and its details published.
After this, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the caste-wise census details will be published soon. Deputy Chief Minister DK Sivakumar objected to this. So the plan to publish the caste-wise census was shelved. Criticizing this, the BJP raised the question, “Is the Congress leadership ready to openly discuss the position of DK Shivakumar?”
In this situation, Congress National President Kharge said, “A caste-wise survey should be conducted and reservation should be given to the backward castes accordingly.” This is the stand of the Congress. “There is no double position within the party on that issue,” he replied yesterday.
Journalists questioned DK Sivakumar about this. He said, “I am not against caste-wise census. The survey should be scientific. Is the 2015 caste-wise census data correct now in Karnataka? I belong to backward class. The survey was conducted by the Commission for Welfare of Backward Persons, of which I am a member. “Rather than doing politics over this, we should think whether the survey will be accurate now,” he explained.
