There are doubts about the participation of Gamal Musiala and Leroy Sane, Bayern Munich players, in the match against Spanish Real Madrid tomorrow, Tuesday (11:00 pm UAE time), in the first leg of the semi-final of the European Champions League.
Bayern’s technical director, Thomas Tuchel, said in a press conference, today, Monday: “There are many decisions that will be made in the last moments regarding Jamal and Leroy.”
He added that he would decide on Musiala, who suffered a knee injury, and Sane, who suffers from a thigh problem, after the team’s final training.
Tuchel believes that midfielder Konrad Laimer, who was replaced this week due to an ankle injury, has a chance and may be able to play tomorrow, Tuesday, but things have become difficult for defender Matthijs de Ligt, who is injured in the knee, and Dayot Upamecano, who is injured in the ankle.
Tuchel has already announced that Serge Gnabry, the team’s striker, will participate in the match after recovering from his injury.
Tuchel added: “This semi-final match is like the final, it is a very big match.”
The two teams met previously in 26 matches in the tournament under its new and old names, becoming the two teams that faced the most in the history of the tournament.
For his part, right-back Joshua Kimmich said: “I think there are two great teams that will play together.”
He added: “We know Real Madrid well and we know that they have great potential,” noting that his team must find a balance between offensive and defensive play against a team that includes the German duo Toni Kroos and Antonio Rudiger.
Kimmich (29 years old) explained: “We want to achieve a good result and start in a comfortable position in the return match.”
The return match will be held on Wednesday next week in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The Bayern Munich player continued: “I am very excited for that match, like any fan in Europe. It is a great feeling to play in the semi-final against Real Madrid.”
Bayern Munich beat Real Madrid in the semi-finals in 2012, but lost to the same team in 2014 and 2018.
For his part, the Bavarian team’s goalkeeper and captain, Manuel Neuer, is looking forward to playing in the final at Wembley Stadium on the first of next June.
He added: “We know that going to Wembley and playing the final will be difficult, and that is why we have to be in our best condition in the two matches.”
Neuer is looking forward to an all-German final at Wembley, as happened in 2013 between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, which in turn will face Paris Saint-Germain in the second semi-final match.
He added: “In the beginning, it is good for German football to have two teams in the semi-finals. Of course, the stadium for the final match will be very special, and the fact that the two teams met here in 2013 and are now playing in the semi-finals is also something special.”
