Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand Magellan and Duarte Barbosa discovered new lands through adventurous journeys. They traveled to lands that were foreign to the world till then and imparted valuable knowledge to the world. The exhibition sheds light on the adventurous journeys made by world travelers in many of the countries we see today.
The exhibition also includes the knowledge they acquired through such journeys from the Atlantic coast to different parts of the Indian Ocean. The main purpose of these voyages to India and East Asia was trade. This is evidenced by the objects and historical documents included in the exhibition. Here is an opportunity to get a closer look at the Portuguese presence in the Gulf and the relationship between the two regions.
On display are a rare collection of manuscripts, rare footage of voyages and navigation, books on centuries-old Arab-Portuguese relations, and cartographic images.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi inaugurated. The history book The Complete Manuscript of the Duarte Barbosa included in the exhibition was edited by Sultan Al Qasimi. He noted that the exhibition will help to deepen the understanding of the long-standing relationship between the Gulf countries and Portugal.
