Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, the world number one, expressed his happiness at meeting His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, during the Government Games in Dubai.
Djokovic, who participated in the 31st edition of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, visited the tournament’s activities last Thursday, coinciding with the launch of the fourth edition of it, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Djokovic expressed his admiration for the idea of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to hold the “Government Games”, in which many athletes compete in a group of games.
The player had already stated his desire to participate in the government games, if he received an invitation to do so, and said: “The government games tournament is a wonderful idea from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, especially with what it includes of professional competitions and sports entertainment competitions.”
He added, “If I were able to get an invitation in the coming years, even as invitation cards in the game of tennis, I would not hesitate at all, but I would be honored to participate and be part of this great event.”
And Djokovic bid farewell to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, losing to the Russian Daniel Medvedev, the world number seven, and the third for the tournament in the semi-finals.
