Novak Djokovic won the 2023 Laureus World Athlete of the Year Award, the fifth time he has achieved this award.
The Serbian tennis player, ranked number one in the world, received the award from the hands of former American football player Tom Brady, after beating Argentine football players Lionel Messi, Norwegian Erling Haaland, Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, American runner Noah Lyles, and Dutch Formula 1 car driver Max Verstappen.
In the last three editions, the winner of the Best Athlete Award was Lionel Messi (2023), Max Verstappen (2022), and Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal (2021).
Djokovic won the Laureus Prize in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2019.
In 2023, Djokovic continued his achievements by winning the Australian, Roland Garros, and US Open tournaments, reaching 24 Grand Slam titles.
