Former US President Donald Trump was found liable for ‘sexual assault’ on Tuesday in a New York civil court set to determine whether he committed a 1996 rape of a former journalist, who also charged him of defamation, according to several media.
The nine jurors determined that Mr. Trump was not responsible for a “rape” as accused by former newspaper columnist E. Jean Carroll, reported American media including the New York Times and CNN.
Manhattan Federal Civil Court also ruled that Mr. Trump should pay some $5 million in damages for that sexual assault in a New York City department store in 1996 and for defamation from the revelation of the facts by Mr.me Carroll in 2019.
“This verdict is a disgrace,” Mr. Trump denounced shortly after.
The former president repeated that he did not know his accuser. “I have absolutely no idea who this woman is,” he said on his Truth Social network.
