The election of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives is not going anywhere. After the mid-term elections, the opposition Republican Party got a small majority in the lower house of the US Congress. However, the party leaders have been struggling for 3 days to elect their leader as the chairman. In this order, the name of former president and Republican leader Donald Trump came into the race. Trump’s name was nominated by a leader of that party.. he got only one vote.
Kevin McCarthy is contesting for the Speaker’s post. 218 votes are required to be elected Speaker in the 430-member House of Representatives. In fact, Kevin McCarthy should have won easily as the Republican Party had a small majority in the House. However, about 20 Republicans do not support his candidacy. As a result, voting after voting has been going on for three days. So far 12 times voting has been held.. McCarthy could not win.
An interesting incident took place before the 11th round of voting. Matt Gaetz, the leader of the group opposing McCarthy’s candidacy, nominated Trump’s name for the post of Speaker.
