Kolkata: The way West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari behaved towards a woman police officer during the ‘Nabanna Salo’ protest in Kolkata today has sparked controversy.
In West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress on behalf of the opposition BJP marched towards the headquarters alleging corruption. This protest was led by Suwendu Adhikari, who could be the leader of the opposition. The police arrested the protestors. A female police officer had come to arrest Suwendu officer and take him away.
Against this, the woman told the police officer, “Don’t touch my body. You are a woman, I am a man,” said BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in a controversial manner. Suwendu is said to have continued to warn the female police and insist that only male police officers be called to speak to her saying, “I am a law abiding citizen”.
The ruling Trinamool Congress shared the footage on its Twitter page and condemned Suvendu Adhikari and the BJP. At the same time, netizens are posting about Suwendu that the woman treated the police disrespectfully.
Suwendu Adhikari was a prominent figure in the Trinamool Congress. He joined the BJP by December 2020. It is noteworthy that the officer defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Nandigram constituency in the 2021 state assembly elections.
