The Asian Chess Federation, headed by Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Shakhbout Al Nahyan, agreed to host the UAE for the Asian Amateur Championship, which is organized by the UAE Chess Federation from August 26 to September 4 in Dubai, and the tournament has also been placed on the international agenda.
It is expected that more than 200 male and female players from various Asian countries will participate in the tournament, and it will be held in four categories: under 2000 points for males and females, and a category under 1700 points for males and females.
And a press statement stated: “The Federation’s Board of Directors formed the Supreme Committee for the Championship, headed by Tarim Matar Tarim, President of the Federation, Abdul Karim Al-Marzouqi, Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee, and Sultan Ali Al-Taher, Director of the Tournament, and the latter will form the committees operating in the tournament during the coming period.”
Rawda Al Serkal, a player of our national team and the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mental Games Club, won the silver medal for the women’s singles in the Asian Amateur Chess Championship for men and women, the last tournament that was held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat. Wadima Al Kalbani, a player of our national team and Al Ain Club for Culture and Chess, won the award for the best player ranked under 1900 in the international classification.
The President of the Federation, Tarim Matar Tarim, thanked Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Shakhbout Al Nahyan, President of the Asian Football Confederation, for agreeing to host the tournament. The first and not the last, and hosting tournaments comes within the strategy of the Federation’s board of directors.
He added: «Hosting the event has many goals, foremost of which is to confirm that the UAE is the center of the game of smart people in the Middle East, and to provide a strong opportunity for our players and players to interact with different Asian schools, and also to search for an achievement in the tournament that will be added to the achievements of the game at the continental level, in addition to organizing The tournament increases the experience of our national cadres, by pushing young faces into the organizing committees of the tournament to gain experience.
