Dubai hosts the first global league in the “smart game”

The International Chess Federation revealed the launch of the World League for the Smart Game from Dubai, which will host the first sessions of the major global event, and its competitions are scheduled to be held between June 21 and the second of next July, with the participation of elite champions and stars of the game from around the world, confirming Dubai’s position as a major attraction for tournaments. The major world championships in various games, in light of the confidence enjoyed by the international federations and the organizers of the most important world championships.

The International Federation stated that the league will be the first and largest event in the world of chess based on excellence, and the competitions will include the participation of six teams, and each team will include six players, provided that there are at least two players among them.

The Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, Saeed Hareb, appreciated the Federation’s choice of Dubai to host the World League in its first edition, and said: «We are happy to cooperate again with the International Chess Federation, and we welcome hosting this great event and all its participants from the champions of the game around the world, as well as the rising stars. Dubai has always been a starting point for talent in all fields and the most prominent platform for celebrating excellence in its various forms and forms.

He added, “The International Chess Federation’s choice of Dubai to launch this new world league, and after successful cooperation in hosting the World Chess Championship during the (Expo), is nothing but a testament to renewed confidence in Dubai’s capabilities to host and organize the largest sporting events.”

For his part, the President of the International Chess Federation, Arkady Dvorkovich, said: “We are pleased to announce our partnership with the Dubai Sports Council to host the inaugural edition of the World Chess League in Dubai. Dubai has established itself as a destination for international events and major sporting events, as the city hosted the World Chess Championship during the activities of (Expo 2020 Dubai), which achieved great success, and in light of this experience, we could not think of a better partner to present an unforgettable first edition of the tournament. World Chess».

The competitions of the six teams participating in the tournament, which will be organized in partnership between the International Federation of the Game and Tech Mahindra, will be held in the form of a league, where each team will play 10 matches, while each match will include six competitions that will be played simultaneously.

The two winning teams will advance to the final match on July 2, where the winner of the World Franchise Team Championship will be crowned.

It is noteworthy that the World Chess Championship, whose competitions were organized in the heart of “Expo 2020 Dubai”, was one of the most distinguished and successful tournaments for the game, in which the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen won his fifth title, after defeating the Russian Ian Nepomnyashchi in the final of the tournament, after a series of rounds that continued on Over the course of 11 matches, one of the most powerful matches in the world, and the total prize money for the tournament amounted to two million euros.

The World Chess League will be held between June 21 and July 2.
