A 33-year-old Dutch who was engaged in the sport of kitesurfing passed away in a medical facility following an incident at Sunrise Beach in Muizenberg, Cape Town. The man was lifted and pulled onto land by strong winds while in the sea on Thursday.
The Man, who was participating in kitesurfing and had equipment attached to them, suffered severe injuries. According to Shameema Adams, the marketing manager of Melomed Hospital Group, when the man was being transported to the hospital by ambulance, their condition was critical and it was suspected that they had multiple injuries.
When the man arrived at Melomed Tokai hospital, they were swiftly taken to the emergency room for treatment by a physician specialized in emergency care and a surgeon experienced in treating multiple traumatic injuries.
Adams further said that although the initial diagnosis for the man was poor, the medical team made all possible efforts to provide assistance. However, the man condition worsened swiftly and despite all efforts, the man passed away due to their injuries.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, a spokesperson for Western Cape police, stated that Muizenberg officers were dispatched after receiving a report of a “sudden death.”
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi further said that upon reaching the hospital, the officers found the body of the man who had sustained injuries and was pronounced dead by the medical staff. The reports indicated that the man got injured while performing kitesurfing and was taken to the hospital close by.
