The authorities of the Kherson region, after the transition of the region under the control of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, announced their intention to return the emblem of the times of the Russian Empire, said Stremousov, deputy chairman of the military-civilian administration of the Kherson region, on May 7.
“A decision was made to return the historical coat of arms of the Kherson region from the time the region was part of the Russian Empire,” he said.
The new coat of arms was based on the first coat of arms of Kherson and Kherson district, which was approved on October 7, 1803. The new emblem in the form of a golden shield depicts a black double-headed crowned eagle, in the right paw of which is a laurel branch, in the left – a flame. On the chest of an eagle in a blue shield is a golden cross.
Earlier, Stremousov said that the Kherson region, liberated by Russian military personnel, would strive to become part of Russia.
He also stressed that the authorities of the region are ready to address the issue of including the Kherson region into the Russian Federation, and also added that full-fledged cooperation is already taking place, and the region already feels “as one whole with the regions of Russia.”
On May 7, the head of the Crimea, Sergey Aksenov, announced the complete liberation of the Kherson region from the nationalists and the authorities of Kyiv. He stressed that life in the liberated territories is getting better and “everything is moving in a peaceful direction.”
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. A few days earlier, the situation in the region escalated significantly due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also turned to Moscow for help. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.
