Emirates Team Emirates rider Mark Hirschi (26 years old) won the Memorial Pantani race in Cesenatico, Italy, yesterday.
The 195km race route, which started in Cesenatico, remained under the control of the UAE Team Emirates from the start until Filippo Baroncini launched a rapid attack that no one could catch until the last kilometre, but the end was happy for Hirschi who finished the race in the lead.
This victory represents Hirschi’s fifth consecutive win, as he is currently preparing for the Trofeo Matteotti and the Tour of Luxembourg, bringing the total number of victories for the UAE Team Emirates to 72 this season.
“The race was tough, but we were able to control it from the start,” said Hirschi. “Baroncini made an early attack, which helped us a lot. We tried to slow him down behind us after that, but he caught up with us in the last 500 metres. Then I went fast, followed the front riders and took advantage of the headwind. It’s a great feeling to keep winning.”
