Emirates Holdings (the country’s first professional women’s cycling team) has announced its line-up for the Women’s Tour de France, which is scheduled to start today and continue until August 18.
The team is participating in this edition of the world race with seven players: Sofia Bertisol, Michaela Harvey, Lizzie Holden, Carolina Komeja, Erica Magnaldi, Silvia Persico, and Karlene Swinkels.
The team’s participation in the tour will see the players wear a jersey designed specifically for participation in this important international event, which expresses the team’s mission and includes symbolic elements that highlight its interest in empowering women, confirming its belief in diversity and encouraging others to lead and take responsibility, within the framework of women’s cycling.
The 2024 Women’s Tour de France will be held over eight stages, totalling 946 kilometres, with the first three stages taking place in the Netherlands.
The race then moves south into Belgium, covering routes familiar from classic races such as the Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The Tour continues south into France, concluding with two final stages in the Alps, including a summit finish at the 1,850-metre Alpe d’Huez.
Several of the team’s players represented their countries at the Paris Olympics, with Chiara Consonni and her Italy teammate Vittoria Guzzini winning gold in track cycling, their first Olympic medal.
Commenting on the participation in the Tour, Melissa Moncada, President of Emirates Holding Team, said: “The Women’s Tour de France is the pinnacle of our racing season, and we are delighted to be competing in this important race with such a strong line-up of talented athletes. We are excited to take on this challenge and to see the strong performances of the Emirates Holding Team, their determination in every race, and their relentless pursuit of victory, which is the hallmark of champions.”
