Employees of PMC “Wagner” after the liberation of Soledar in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) are cleaning the mines in the city. On Sunday, January 15, Izvestia war correspondent Dmitry Astrakhan spoke about this.
According to the military correspondent, there are many mines in Soledar, so if the city is completely cleared from above, then control is still being carried out underground.
“Hundreds of kilometers of underground tunnels and salt mines remain, in which the enemy blew up part of the entrances. However, some of the entrances where the Ukrainian militants left are intact. They still remain uncleaned,” Astrakhan said.
As an employee of the Wagner PMC explained to the correspondent, the fighters entered Soledar from the side of Popasna, at that time the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) mined the entrances to the mines. As a result, one of them exploded on the spot.
“They mined everything on the outskirts. And then all the mines just exploded, ”said the Wagner employee.
He added that the liberation of Soledar was complicated by the fact that Ukrainian nationalists traditionally used civilians as human shields.
Currently, a group of fighters continues to fight outside the city, while others are clearing the mines.
