Srinagar. An encounter has been reported between security forces and terrorists near Badigam under District Kulgam in South Kashmir. Earlier on Tuesday, soldiers had surrounded three to four terrorists in Kupwara district adjacent to the LoC in North Kashmir.
Encounter continued in Nagmarg of Kupwara. This area is adjacent to District Bandipora and apart from this this area also borders with LOC. Terrorists infiltrating into Kashmir use this area to reach South Kashmir via Bandipora, Sopore, Ganderbal and Srinagar.
Sources said that on the information of sighting of terrorists in Nagmarg, security forces launched an operation in the early hours. The terrorists are hiding under the cover of dense trees at a height. To surround them, one squad of security forces left from Kupwara and the other squad left from Rubandipore area of Bandipora district. Seeing him trapped in the siege, the terrorists opened fire. The soldiers also fired back to save themselves. Intermittent firing continued from both sides for about an hour.
On the other hand, the process of cordoning off and investigating the areas surrounding the encounter site has been intensified. There is no confirmation yet about the number of terrorists involved in the encounter, and the security forces are continuing the operation in the area with utmost caution.
