Lucknow. A criminal who committed theft in Indian Overseas Bank was arrested in a police encounter in Lucknow on Monday morning. His three companions fled from the spot. Further, the police laid siege and arrested two more miscreants. DCP East Shashank Singh said that a team is engaged in searching for him.
Lucknow Police had an encounter on Monday morning with criminals who broke into 42 lockers and stole money from the Indian Overseas Bank. A criminal was injured after being shot in an encounter in Chinhat area. However, his two companions managed to escape. The thieves broke into the locker and made away with jewelery worth lakhs of rupees.
The incident of bank locker theft took place just 100 meters away from Matiyari police post. It is being told that thieves entered the bank on Saturday night and cut the wall of the strong room with a cutter. After this, the bank locker was cut open and the items disappeared. The thieves kept doing this work till four in the morning and no one even had a clue. Police have asked the bank for the names and addresses of all the locker holders. This encounter took place near Kisan Path in Chinhat.
Police sources have said that more than eight criminals are involved in this gang. Out of these, four criminals were keeping vigil outside the bank while four were committing theft by cutting the locker inside. The criminal Arvind Kumar, injured in the police encounter, is a resident of Munger, Bihar. Police have recovered 315 bore pistol from him. Police have recovered a white colored car without number.
