The English Football Association has published a file explaining the capabilities and requirements that must be met by the next coach of the English national team, revealing that there are already a number of candidates to succeed former coach Gareth Southgate.
Southgate has stepped down after England lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, with former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter both nominated for the job, the PA news agency reported.
However, the English Football Association said “the door is open to anyone who meets the criteria published today, Friday”, while the association set August 2 as the closing date for receiving applications, with the European Nations League matches being held next September.
The English Football Association explained: “This role requires leading and developing the English national team in addition to winning championships, and for the team to maintain its position as one of the best teams in the world.”
The Federation added: “Inspirational leadership will be an important element in the right person to take over the task of the Federation’s technical team, and to strengthen its relationship with the clubs that include English players.”
He explained: “The candidate will need a UEFA coaching license, extensive experience in English football, and a strong record in the English Premier League or any major league in the world.”
The FA continued: “It will require an exceptional leader who is highly flexible and aware of the high-profile role he will play and will be under public scrutiny.”
