Rafik Kabo scored a goal and set up another goal to lead struggling Enppi to a 2-0 victory over its host Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.
Enppi took the lead through Rafik Kabo in the 20th minute, then passed the ball to captain Ali Fawzi to enhance the guest team’s superiority in the middle of the second half.
Zamalek, the defending champion, stopped at 33 points from 20 matches, and is in fifth place, 11 points behind Al-Ahly, who played 18 matches.
Enppi jumped to 13th place with 23 points, seven points ahead of the relegation zone.
Enppi has maintained its unbeaten record against Zamalek in the league since October 2021.
And Zamalek failed to take advantage of the morale boost after defeating Taraji, to preserve its hopes in the African Champions League.
And from a counterattack, Mohamed Hamdi’s pass reached the Tunisian Kabu, who fired into the goal when goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi went out to meet him.
The most prominent chance for Zamalek was when Ahmed Sayed (Zizou) kicked a free kick towards the goal, but goalkeeper Reda El Sayed pushed it away with difficulty in the 24th minute.
Zamalek continued its pressure, but without danger to the goal of Enppi, and a header from Mustafa Shalaby passed next to the goal of his former team, which he left at the beginning of the current season.
Mahmoud Hamdi (Al-Wensh), defender of Zamalek, almost equalized at the beginning of the second half, but his attempt with a header went just past the right post.
Luck stood beside Enppi twice within three minutes. At first, Youssef Osama, the Zamalek player, hit the crossbar in the 65th minute.
On the other hand, Capo launched on the right side and passed the ball to Fawzy, who shot in the far corner, hitting the post into Zamalek’s goal.
The danger of Enppi continued through counterattacks, as Capo made his way from just before the middle of the stadium to the Zamalek penalty area, but his shot passed near the post.
This is the fifth loss for Zamalek in the current season, and it represents a blow to the team before facing Shabab Belouizdad in Algeria in a match that may decide their career in the Champions League.
