ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkey is next to Libya, which has been affected by devastating floods after storm Daniel, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, reports Anadolu.
“As Turkey has never left the Libyan people alone, and in these difficult moments, we stand by our brothers with all our resources,” Erdogan said in an address at the Symposium on the New Constitution organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Turkish Presidency in Ankara.
He noted that Turkey has so far sent three cargo planes with aid to Libya: “Our goal is to ensure the healing of Libya’s wounds as soon as possible.”
Over 3,000 people have died and thousands are missing due to the weekend disaster in eastern Libya. The cities of Benghazi, al-Bayda and al-Marj, as well as Sousa and Derna, were the most affected.
– New Constitution –
Regarding the activities to introduce a new Constitution in Turkey, Erdogan said: “We have not given up on our goal of a new, civil, democratic, freedom-oriented and inclusive Constitution for our country.”
“We will never stop working, striving and fighting until we present the new Constitution, which is one of the elements of our vision for the ‘Century of Turkey’, to our people.”
He added: “I appeal to all political parties, civil society and academia – let’s talk, discuss and negotiate to find the most ideal text of the Constitution.”
Erdogan emphasized that the purpose of the new document is to prioritize people and reflect the diversity and richness of the Turkish nation.
