Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope that Turkey will have enough oil to meet its own needs in the future, Anadolia reports.
On Friday, via video link, Erdogan attended the opening ceremony of the Bridge of Martyrs on July 15 in the Turkish city of Adani.
He pointed out that they are working day and night to provide aid and support to people in the earthquake-affected provinces in the south of Turkey, including Adana.
As he said, thanks to the 650,000 new homes that will be built within a year, the cities in the region affected by devastating earthquakes will be “revived” again.
“Our people know very well that there is no investment and production without infrastructure, as well as employment, and they have always supported us in this for 21 years,” Erdogan said.
He particularly emphasized the importance of investing in the field of energy.
“We have our own natural gas and I hope that in the not so distant future we will see the days when we will have enough oil to meet our needs,” said the Turkish president.
Erdogan said last week that the full exploitation capacity of Black Sea gas will replace almost 30 percent of Turkey’s total needs.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the Black Sea natural gas field, Erdogan said that Turkey “is taking a historic step towards energy independence”.
In August 2020, 320 billion cubic meters of natural gas was discovered in the Tuna-1 well in the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea, making it the largest discovery of that energy in the history of Turkey.
With an additional 85 billion cubic meters discovered in October 2020, the total amount of discovered gas reserves was 405 billion cubic meters.
After the discovery of 135 billion cubic meters in the Amasra-1 well in June 2021, Black Sea gas reserves amounted to 540 billion cubic meters.
Another 58 billion cubic meters of gas was found in December 2022 in the Caycuma-1 well in the southwestern part of the Black Sea.
An independent estimate showed that Turkey’s gas reserves in the Black Sea will reach 710 billion cubic meters, with a market value of about a trillion dollars.
