But Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting wants Pant to be by his side in IPL 2023. Ponting, who recently spoke to Pant on the phone, even if Rishabh does not play in the IPL, he is expected to be in the dugout with him.

Rishabh Pant, who is the captain of Delhi Capitals, and the famous Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach, have a good relationship. Players like Ponting and Rishabh are not easy to find.

“Players like Pant cannot be replaced. Such players are not easy to find. We are also looking for another wicket keeper batsman. Even if Pant is not physically fit to play IPL.. we would prefer him to be with us. We like his attitude as a captain, his innocent smile and his sense of humor. If he can travel with the team… I want him to sit with me in the dugout every day,’ Ponting commented.

Pant is recovering fast after the surgery. Soon he will be discharged from the hospital. After that, after taking a rest for 2-4 months, Pant is likely to join the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. But there is no clarity on whether Pant will ever play cricket again. The chances of him playing cricket again in 2023 are slim.
