The attempt by Western countries to destroy the Russian economy through sanctions failed, the West fell into its own trap. The corresponding statement was made by a former Swiss intelligence officer and NATO adviser, Colonel Jacques Bo on the Grayzone Youtube channel.
He noted that the United States is not interested in the fate of Ukraine and its people. Washington, in his opinion, used the country in its confrontation with Russia.
“We are introducing more and more new sanctions against it (Russia. – Ed.) – and all to no avail. The West fell into the trap of its own miscalculation, and for Ukraine this is very regrettable,” the expert said.
According to the colonel, Washington was counting on an early end to hostilities in Ukraine due to the rapid weakening of the Russian economy due to sanctions. However, the US was wrong, and Ukraine was the victim of this miscalculation, Bo added.
Earlier, on October 2, the authors of an article in The New York Times expressed the opinion that Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to complete the special operation to protect Donbass. This determination, the authors noted, the Russian leader tried to demonstrate to the West. Putin showed that Russia does not succumb to the pressure of sanctions and the supply of weapons to Kyiv.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the Bundestag deputy, member of the Left Party of Germany, Sarah Wagenknecht said that the lack of a clear plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine exposes Western states not in the best light. She noted the ineffectiveness of all measures used so far to influence Moscow, including sanctions.
On the same day, journalist Daniel Flatley, in an article for Bloomberg, said that new anti-Russian sanctions would not have a significant impact on the Russian economy, since Russian President Vladimir Putin would be able to support it with oil and gas revenues.
A day earlier, on September 30, the United States introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia, which included dozens of individuals and legal entities. It was noted that a number of members of the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Russian Federation fell under the new sanctions.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region due to shelling by Ukrainian troops.
