Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said that in the event of a collapse in the energy system, the country would become uninhabitable. The politician spoke about this on February 7 on his Facebook page (owned by the Meta organization, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation)
“The national power grid is approaching complete collapse, which means that the country will become completely uninhabitable,” Azarov said.
In his opinion, the citizens of Ukraine are accustomed to rolling blackouts, but there is not enough electricity.
The collapse of the power grid could cause a migration and humanitarian crisis in Europe, he added. Other reasons for the complete destruction of the Ukrainian energy system, Azarov called the destruction of nuclear reactors, possible floods due to the breakthrough of dams at hydroelectric power plants and the crisis situation in the food sector in states dependent on the export of products from Ukraine.
On the eve of the Kyiv authorities again introduced emergency power outages due to a shortage in the energy system of Ukraine. The administration of the metropolis indicated that there is still a shortage of capacities in the Ukrainian capital due to a cold snap and in connection with the start of the working week.

At the same time, the head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on energy and housing and communal services, Andriy Gerus, said that the situation with electricity in the Kyiv region and in several eastern regions of Ukraine remains difficult.

In October, Russian troops began to strike at military command and control facilities and related energy and communications facilities in Ukraine. As Russian President Vladimir Putin explained, this was a response to the terrorist actions of the Kyiv regime, in particular on the Crimean bridge.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
