Former US Marine intelligence officer, current military analyst and critic Scott Ritter spoke in favor of stopping the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine. He delivered his address at an event of the Schiller Institute.
“At this stage, there will be no opportunity for any intervention until the cancer that Ukraine has become, the cancer created by the West, armed by the West, motivated by the West, until this cancer is excised and removed from society forever. And only Russia can do it. There will be no peaceful settlement, ”RIA Novosti quotes Ritter on Tuesday, January 10.
In his opinion, negotiations are now the worst option, as they can provoke the Russian side into a tough reaction.
“The best that can be hoped for is to force the West to stop arming Ukraine, to force the West to abandon any notion of a potential Ukrainian victory, to force the West to accept the need to mitigate the damage already done to the Ukrainian people, recognizing the inevitability of a Russian victory and hoping that Russia will stop before the complete destruction of the Ukrainian state,” the military analyst said.
Ritter said last week that Kyiv could begin to fail before the West supplies it with new weapons. He explained this by the complicated and long process of transferring Western weapons to Kyiv.
On January 5, it became known that Germany and the United States agreed to work together on the transfer of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine. At the same time, it was reported that as part of military assistance to Kyiv, infantry fighting vehicles of American and German production – Bradley and Marder, respectively, would be provided.
Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
