New Delhi: India has promised more investment in Sri Lanka, which is caught in a severe economic crisis.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar is on a 2-day visit to Sri Lanka. He met Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo yesterday. Minister Jaishankar informed that he has come to Sri Lanka as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is determined to give priority to neighboring countries.
During this meeting MoU will be signed for setting up renewable energy projects on 3 islands in the northern part of Sri Lanka.
Jaishankar also met Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabri. He also said that India will stand by Sri Lanka in difficult times. He also assured that India will encourage more investments in energy, tourism and infrastructure sectors in Sri Lanka to improve its economic status. Minister Jaishankar also said that India is ready to make additional efforts to fulfill the requirement of Sri Lanka.
