The incident took place at the Haflong railway station in the Dima Hassaw area of ​​Assam. Passengers on the train were airlifted by Indian Air Force (IAF) crews before the crash. 100 passengers were evacuated safely. The loss of life was avoided.

Railway officials had earlier assessed the severity of the accident and stopped 29 trains. Passengers on passenger trains were evacuated to safer areas.

Seven people have been killed so far in the state of Assam due to the floods. Dozens of people were abducted. Thousands became homeless. Crop damage occurred on hundreds of hectares. Trapped in floods, dumb creatures and wildlife are dying.

NDRF, Army and paramilitary teams carried out relief operations in the flood-hit areas. Those trapped in the floods are being rescued at the risk of their lives. Hundreds of homes were destroyed in the floods. Roads were damaged. The homeless are being shifted to relief camps set up by the government. Fear of landslides is threatening the people of Assam.
