Today, Wednesday, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, stressed the importance of consolidating the Jeddah Declaration agreement by the two parties to the conflict in Sudan, stressing that all efforts should be made to consolidate this agreement.
He also said during a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group concerned with developments in the situation in Sudan, “We urge the parties to the conflict to dialogue seriously, which contributes to reducing the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people and the safety and territorial integrity of their country.”
The meeting, in which Egypt and the League of Arab States participated, reviewed the most important contents of the Jeddah Declaration, including the commitment to protect civilians in Sudan.
The meeting also discussed the continuation of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group for its efforts and good offices with all Sudanese parties to prevail over the voice of wisdom and uphold the higher interests of Sudan, and to reach solutions that meet the aspirations and aspirations of the Sudanese people towards security, stability and development.
Civilian protection
During the meeting held in Jeddah, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of reaching an immediate and sustainable cease-fire in Sudan.
The group expressed its support for the Declaration of Principles, which representatives of the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces recently concluded in Jeddah regarding protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian work and meeting urgent humanitarian needs, according to the statement.
The committee, which was formed by the decision of the Ministerial Council on May 7, held its first meeting on the sidelines of the preparatory work for the Arab summit in Jeddah, which is scheduled for May 19.
In turn, Jamal Rushdi, spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, stated that the committee includes the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt, in addition to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.

He also made it clear that the committee is concerned with making the necessary contacts with the aim of reaching a complete and sustainable ceasefire and addressing the causes of the crisis, in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and their aspiration for stability and security.
The spokesman conveyed the Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressing the importance of the parties’ commitment to the armistice as a prelude to achieving a comprehensive ceasefire, and in a way that allows a return to the policy square to address the crisis in Sudan in all its aspects.

Preliminary agreement
It is noteworthy that the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces signed, on May 12, an agreement of preliminary principles in Jeddah, confirming their commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty and unity.
The Jeddah Declaration affirmed that the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces refrain from any attack that would cause civilian harm.
Sudan has witnessed violent clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since the middle of last month, which resulted in hundreds of casualties.
