Mumbai Tabla player Zakir Hussain died in a hospital in San Francisco on Monday. This sad news has been confirmed by his family. Zakir Hussain died due to complications of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (severe lung disease). He was admitted to the hospital for two weeks and was in the ICU after his health deteriorated. He was 73 years old.
Earlier on the night of 15 December, the family had denied the news of death. His sister Khurshid had told that he is breathing, but his condition is critical. Pray for his health. But on the morning of 16th December, Zakir Hussain said goodbye to this world. Late night on 15 December, news spread that Zakir Hussain was no more.
After this, social media was flooded with posts paying tribute. From the film industry to sports and many leaders also expressed grief over X. There is mourning in the entertainment world also due to the death of Zakir Hussain. Many celebrities including Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Riteish Deshmukh and Bhumi Pednekar have paid tribute to the late tabla player (Zakir Hussain).
Zakir Hussain was born on 9 March 1951 in Mumbai. His father’s name was Ustad Allarakha Qureshi and he was also a tabla player. His mother’s name was Bavi Begum. He performed his first concert in America at the age of just 11. After this, he launched his first album in 1973. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 1988, the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2023. He also won three Grammy Awards in February this year.
