Peter and Paul Day will be celebrated by believers on July 12, 2023. The holiday is not movable, it falls on the same day every year.
The memory of the saints is revered throughout the Orthodox world, since the apostles are the most significant followers of Jesus Christ. They both preached Christianity and brought tens of thousands of people to the faith. More details – in the material “Izvestia”.
On this day, believers go to church for a festive service, pray for health, protection and healing.
After visiting the temple, the whole family gathers for a festive dinner.
On the eve of the holiday, July 11, a multi-day fast, called Apostolic or Petrov, ended; it continued from June 20. Therefore, the table for Peter and Paul was laid quite generously. All types of first courses are prepared, especially okroshka, which is popular in summer, meat and fish dishes, pies, salads, light desserts and compotes made from fresh fruits and berries.
Our ancestors had a number of prohibitions on July 12:
- do hard physical work
- cleaning the house should be postponed for another day,
- do not wash, sew, do needlework,
- it is forbidden to quarrel, swear and condemn and discuss other people,
- lending or borrowing money
- drinking alcohol.
