Corinthians and Ferroviária will make the grand final of the 2023 Brazilian Women’s Championship. The title will be decided in two games, scheduled for Thursday (7) and Sunday (10).
The two finalists were defined this Saturday (2), with the return matches of the semifinals. The Corinthians team beat Santos 2-0, at Parque São Jorge, while the Araraquara team won on penalties after losing to São Paulo, by the same score, at Fonte Luminosa.
The sport’s biggest champion, Corinthians is fighting for its fifth national trophy and its fourth consecutive championship. The two-time champion Ferroviária is looking for its third cup to shorten this distance and further isolate itself as the second most winning team in the competition.
At a disadvantage after a 3-1 home defeat in the first leg, São Paulo managed to draw the match with Ferroviária away from home, leading 2-0 in the first half.
Ariel opened the scoring with a header in the 36th minute. Micaelly increased by taking a free kick, at 42, with a cross into the area that went around everyone and deceived goalkeeper Luciana by bouncing on the pitch.
With the aggregate score tied, the place was decided on penalties. After the error in normal time, goalkeeper Luciana counted on the post from Cacau’s shot and saved Pardal and Ariel’s shots to guarantee the Araraquara team’s 3-1 victory.
Corinthians, in turn, had no fear in eliminating Santos and advanced to the final with an aggregate score of 5-0 — in the first leg, the team from the capital had already triumphed 3-0 in Vila Belmiro.
Still under the command of coach Arthur Elias, announced on Friday (1st) as a replacement for Swedish Pia Sundhage in the women’s team, Corinthians hosted their rival at Parque São Jorge this Saturday and won 2-0.
The first goal was scored in the 18th minute of the second half, by Duda Sampaio, from a penalty kick scored with the help of VAR (video assistant referee), after a hand touch by Bruna Menezes.
Fernandinha declared the final result in the 43rd minute when he received a low cross in the area and finished first time.
Responsible for the black and white club’s four national titles, Arthur Elias will hold both positions until the end of the Copa Libertadores, to be played between the 5th and 21st of October.
