End of tragedy for champions…: Since 2010, the defending champions have been knocked out of the league stage in the FIFA World Cup football series. Italy, champions in 2006, started the 2010 series with a league round. Spain, who won the title in 2010, suffered the same fate in 2014. Germany, who won the title in 2014, also crashed out of the 2018 World Cup in Russia after suffering defeats in the league stage. This put pressure on the French team. But against Australia, the team played badly and ended in tragedy.
Henry’s feat equals…: French player Olivier Groud scored 2 goals against Australia. With this, Olivier Crowder joined Thierry Henry as the top goalscorer for France. Both have scored 51 goals each.
