Earlier, on January 26, Russian Ambassador to Ankara Alexei Yerkhov said that a ship with fertilizers sent by Russia to Malawi, mediated by the UN, had not reached that country after more than five months.
He recalled that Russia ordered to transfer 262,000 tons of fertilizer blocked by European countries to the world’s poorest countries free of charge. However, the ship with 20,000 tons of cargo left the Netherlands for Malawi in November and has not yet reached its destination.
On January 21, Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that 18 million tons of agricultural products were delivered to different countries as part of a grain deal.
At the same time, as the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on the same day, most of the products under the Black Sea initiative do not go to poor countries, as expected, but to countries with a high level of income. Thus, according to the agency, poor countries received only 551,527 tons, which is 3% of the total supply.
Earlier, on January 9, the SKC reported that not a single ship was able to leave the ports of Ukraine as part of a grain deal due to bad weather. Three more bulk carriers were moving towards Ukraine along the humanitarian corridor.
On December 26, the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, said that there were significant achievements in the grain deal. According to him, the problem with the export of fertilizers from Russia has not been completely resolved, but there is significant progress in this matter.
The food deal was concluded in Istanbul on 22 July. Then Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Guterres signed a memorandum on facilitating the supply of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets.
