Due to continuous rain, the water level in the Brahmaputra river has increased, due to which, after subsiding for a few days, the flood again took a terrible form on Sunday and a dozen districts including Nagaon, Dibrugarh were submerged in water. People’s houses are filled with knee-deep water. NDRF teams are taking them to safe places. At the same time, the storm also caused heavy destruction in Surat, Gujarat. Many roads are closed due to falling of a large number of trees. Due to heavy rain and flood situation, animals are stranded, due to which there is a possibility of injury and death due to getting hit by vehicles.
The flood situation in Assam is getting worse and due to rising water level, more than 26 percent of the 233 forest camps located in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve have been submerged. At the same time, road connectivity has been cut off from many areas on the India-China border. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the number of flood-affected districts has increased from 12 to 19. Due to heavy rains in Itanagar, schools have been ordered to be closed from 2 to 6 July.
On the other hand, the water level of Alaknanda river is continuously rising in Badrinath Dham. On Monday afternoon, the water level of the river has reached above the danger mark. The police administration has evacuated Taptkund. The water level of the river is only six feet below here. Narad Shila and Varhashila have submerged in water. The police alerted the pilgrims and local people by making announcements in the entire Dham. Also, Taptkund has also been evacuated. Due to the rain in the upper regions, the water level of Alaknanda river has been rising continuously for the last few days.
